About the technology

What is UV LED printing?

UV LED printing is a digital inkjet process that prints straight onto the surface of an item. Instead of drying by evaporation or heat, the UV-curable ink is cured almost instantly by ultraviolet LED lamps as the printhead passes over it. Because the ink is cured as it prints, finished work can be handled straight away, and you can print onto materials that don’t absorb ink.

Flatbed UV printers print onto a wide range of flat and rigid materials, including acrylic, aluminium and other metals, wood, glass, plastics, ceramic tiles and coated blanks, as well as promotional items held in a jig. A taller print height lets you print on thicker items, and many UV printers also use white ink and clear varnish, so you can print on dark or clear materials and add gloss, matte or raised textured effects.

Typical jobs include signs and braille signage, name badges, awards and plaques, promotional products, packaging mock-ups, industrial labels and personalised gifts. The right printer mainly comes down to the size of the bed, the height of the items you want to print and how much work you need to produce.
