Roland VersaObject RC-300

The Roland DG VersaObject RC-300 is a UV helical printer for decorating cylindrical, tapered and curved-profile objects such as bottles, cups, tumblers, flasks and containers. It prints continuously around the object as it rotates, for 360° graphics without a visible join, using Roland’s ECO-UV hard ink in CMYK, gloss and white plus primer. Roland offers two models: the RC-300 Standard Model and the RC-300c Clear Support Model for transparent and liquid-filled bottles. Available from Sign to Badge Solutions.

Key features

1Helical printing

The RC-300 prints continuously around the object as it rotates, rather than building the image in separate strips. Helical printing follows the object profile, supporting tapered and curved-profile applications.

2Cylindrical, tapered and curved objects

It takes objects 45–127 mm in diameter, 30–355 mm long and up to 3 kg, with a taper of up to 10°, so you can decorate bottles, cups, tumblers, flasks and containers directly, without labels or sleeves.

3RC-300c for clear bottles

The RC-300c Clear Support Model extends direct-to-object decoration to transparent and liquid-filled bottles.

4High-opacity white and gloss

High-opacity white ink supports vivid graphics on transparent, coloured and dark objects. Gloss ink adds tactile detail, subtle raised textures and selective highlights.

5Primer and hard UV ink

A printable primer supports output on demanding materials such as stainless steel. Roland’s EUV-H hard UV inks help produce durable graphics for direct-to-object decoration.

6Workflow software

VersaWorks 7 RIP handles tapered-shape artwork conversion, print set-up, colour control and production tools. Roland DG Connect Designer supports artwork preparation, and Roland DG Connect supports remote monitoring and maintenance information.

The two models

Both models share the same object size range, ink set and footprint.

RC-300 Standard Model

For decorating cylindrical, tapered and curved-profile objects such as bottles, cups, tumblers, flasks and containers.

RC-300c Clear Support Model

Adds printing onto transparent and liquid-filled bottles. On tapered objects, Roland limits the vertical difference between the maximum diameter and the left edge of the print area to 10 mm (with the UV unit set 5 mm from the object).

These are the manufacturer’s specifications, summarised from Roland DG Australia’s VersaObject RC-300 product page and data sheet, and are subject to change by Roland DG. The maximum print size along the object isn’t listed here because Roland’s published descriptions of that figure differ, and Roland doesn’t list a warranty on the RC-300 page. Ask us to confirm both for your jobs.

What else you’ll need

Roland lists the following for setting up an RC-300.

Floor space and power

The RC-300 measures 1,599 × 840 × 783 mm and weighs 202 kg, and draws up to 6.0 A at 100–240 V AC. Plan the space and delivery route.

A controlled room temperature

Roland specifies 20–32 °C and 35–80% relative humidity, with no condensation, during operation.

Objects within the size range

Objects need to be 45–127 mm in diameter, 30–355 mm long, up to 3 kg and tapered no more than 10°. Send us a sample if you’re unsure.

The right model for clear bottles

Choose the RC-300c Clear Support Model if you plan to print onto transparent or liquid-filled bottles.

About the technology

Helical UV printing for round and tapered products

UV LED printers jet ink that is cured on the object by an ultraviolet LED lamp. A helical printer like the RC-300 rotates the object while printing continuously around it, rather than printing a series of separate strips, and follows the object’s profile as it goes.

Roland says this enables seamless 360° printing of tapered and curved-profile products, beyond what conventional rotary printing handles. The RC-300 helps with prototypes, limited editions and personalised products without the set-up requirements of traditional decoration methods, and supports seasonal campaigns, product testing and short-run packaging.

Suited to:

  • Premium packaging
  • Cosmetic containers
  • Drinkware and glassware
  • Promotional products
  • Personalised items
  • Limited editions
  • Short-run packaging
