DCS UV-44DTS Medium Format

The DCS UV-44DTS is a medium-format industrial UV LED flatbed printer from Direct Color Systems. It has four Ricoh Gen 6 printheads on a double gantry and prints four colours plus white and clear. It takes materials up to 30 cm (12″) thick on a vacuum table with four adjustable zones, and DCS ships it with a computer and monitor for its Color Byte 11 software. Key features

1Up to 30 cm (12″) material height

Fully adjustable heights take materials up to 30 cm thick, so you can print more than standard sign materials. A crash detection system helps reduce head strikes.

2Ricoh Gen 6 printheads

Four Ricoh Gen 6 industrial printheads (on-demand piezo inkjet, variable-drop greyscale), with uni- and bi-directional print modes and precision dot placement.

3Double gantry and pin registration

DCS builds the UV-44DTS on a double gantry for printer stability, with a pin registration system, precision Y-axis accuracy and easy-to-adjust levelling.

4Four-zone vacuum table

The integrated vacuum table comes standard on all UV-44DTS units and has four adjustable, independent vacuum zones to hold flat substrates down.

5Direct-pour ink system

Four-colour printing plus white and clear, with direct-pour tanks, individual sub-tanks with automated shut-off solenoids, independent meniscus controls for white and CMYK inks, an individual ink purge process and white ink circulation.

6Texture and Braille

ADA and TEXTUR3D™ software for ADA/Braille signage, using DCS’s patented UV printing process, and raised textured prints alongside standard flat prints.

Two power circuits

DCS specifies two single-phase 220–240 VAC, 50/60 Hz circuits, each 20 A maximum.

Room and access

The printer measures 3454 × 2210 × 1931 mm and weighs 760 kg (1000 kg crated), so plan the floor space and delivery route.

A controlled temperature

DCS specifies an operating range of 20–30 °C, with 20–25.5 °C as optimal.

Compatible DCS ink

DCS states that only the compatible ink specified for each machine should be used, as other inks can harm the machine and void the warranty.

Substrate testing and adhesion promoter

DCS recommends testing all substrates for image receptivity, adhesion and durability. Some materials may need an adhesion promoter or a chemical wipe before printing.

Jigs for promotional items

DCS offers standard and custom jigs, designed and calibrated for the printer model, to hold items in exact positions on the bed.

Built for texture and Braille

DCS builds the UV-44DTS on a double gantry for stability, with four Ricoh Gen 6 industrial printheads and its own direct-pour ink system. Individual sub-tanks have automated shut-off solenoids, white and CMYK inks have independent meniscus controls, each ink can be purged individually, and a circulation system supports white ink performance.

DCS includes ADA and TEXTUR3D software: ADA/Braille signage is produced with DCS’s patented UV printing process, and TEXTUR3D adds raised, three-dimensional textures as well as standard flat prints. DCS notes that print times vary with the print mode and substrate, and that every substrate should be tested before final acceptance.
